Changing Service

Through a series of events and one large shift in our ward family, Justus and I are now serving as CTR 7 teachers!  Sadly we'll be out of town this upcoming Sunday.  We are really looking forward to teaching.  When we found out which class we were teaching, I was pleasantly surprised that I could name the kids that would be in our class off the top of my head (or at least 7 out of the 9, two are from the other ward we split into).  Wow, I guess I retained more knowledge from when I was serving as Primary President than I remembered!

It's a great, active class that I already love :)   I consider myself pretty lucky.

Changes, Changes, Changes

For the past four plus years, Justus and I have lived in the same apartment complex.  For our church ward, and a lot of young couples, this concept was shocking.  Our ward had six apartment complexes in it and was considered experts at moving furniture.  Now we are being forced to "move" along with other ward members as the Stake announced boundary changes on Sunday.

The immediate emotion was shock.  We had our primary program the previous Sunday, which was fantastic, and I was making preparations for the Ward Trunk or Treat.  Including some indulgence into the mustache craze, by creating at "take a mustache, leave a mustache" jar. I crack myself up sometimes...

I love our ward and the Del Rio Building we met in each Sunday.  When I was little, my family attended the same building.  I was a Sunbeam in the same room I served as Primary President.  The building also holds a few memories of my father, mostly glimpses of him in Boy Scout uniform, or of  the times I acted up in church.

The ward was also awesome.  In this ward I became Sister Gunther and President Gunther.  Wisdom teeth were removed and I grieved the loss of my dad.  This ward provided much love and support as Justus and I faced our own little trials.  Isn't that what every ward is supposed to feel like?  We considered ourselves very lucky.

When I lost my Dad I desperately wanted it to go back to normal.  A good friend told me that it would never be the same again and that a new normal would take its place.  The same is with the ward boundary changes; there will be a new normal full of new people and adventures. The church is true wherever you go!

I Can Choose the Right

The 2012 theme for Primary is "Choose the Right."  In preparation for the theme I choose to make a mirror that the children can see themselves in and say "I can choose the right."  Here are the pictures documenting the process:
 First find an inexpensive frame

Tape off edges and cut out a shape using contact paper (i.e. CTR shield)

Spray mirror with frosting spray paint (bought at Lowes)

Let frosting paint dry for recommended period of time.  Remove contact paper.  Ooo and ahhh over the simplicity of the process.

I'll present this in January to the Primary.  I'm super excited, but I kind of doubt the kids will be as excited.

Hello Madame President

Yes.  Someone greeted me today by saying, "Hello, Madame President."  I would've laughed out loud, but all I could manage was a nervous giggle.  I was sustained today as the Primary President for my ward at church.  We're all asked to serve in different positions as volunteers and as Primary President I will serve as the leader over the kids organization.  I'm nervous, slightly overwhelmed, but know that I can do it.
