Blue, Green, and Yellow Double Hour Glass Quilt

I've done it again. I've pieced another quilt top before I finished hand-quilting the lattice twin quilt. Oh well, what can I say? I love to piece and struggle with the hand-quilting part. I'm starting to get the courage to buy a walking foot for my machine so that I can try machine quilting...

For now here is the debut of the double-hour glass quilt made from scraps. The scraps are from different collections that I've had long enough for me to forget where I bought them. I got the inspiration from the Cluck Cluck Sew blog. The tutorial is here (click). The designer uses white as the common solid and so a lot of other people who have tried it used white as well. I decided to be different and use brown (I know, I'm such a rebel - strong hint of sarcasm). It's a fun quilt, but if you're a perfectionist, this method is hard to have all of the corners match up. Overall, it is one of my favorites. Hopefully the person I have it in mind for will love it as well.

Justus' Lego Adventures

It's no surprise that Justus loves Legos. He spends quality time with my little brother Ryan creating masterpieces. Over the years, Justus shared with me his many opinions on Legos, from their marketing/branding strategy, the video games, to the shear magnitude of endless possibilities of creations. Needless to say I was very excited when I learned that I could buy a customized small cup of Legos at our local Legos store. They call it their Pick A Brick Wall. It's similar to the idea of Jelly Bellies and being able to make your custom mix of jelly beans. Justus has received two custom mixes so far and enjoys them in his free time. Yesterday, however, I found something more perfect for him. In the back corner of the store I found a Legos grab bag! It was full of random pieces (and cheaper than the cups), which included 5o chairs (as depicted in the above photo). We've joked about building a mini theatre and then showcasing some of Ryan's Star Wars Legos in a future production.

Kate Spain - Central Park Fabric

My mom and I share a few hobbies and interests. One of them is a love for fabric. We love to collect and use fabric, especially when you can feel the quality of it.

For the past few months I've been eyeing a line of fabric designed by Kate Spain. It's called Central Park and not surprisingly is inspired by the beauty and character of the park. I love Central Park for so many reasons and always make Justus take a stroll with me whenever we visit family. I'll admit the name caught my attention, but the designs are what kept it. I don't let myself buy designer fabric very often, but found a great deal to buy this set of 6 half-yard cuttings. Oh, I will definitely be checking the mail often this week! Now all I have to do is decide which pattern to use...

Mother Goose & Grimm

Almost every Sunday morning as a kid, I would run outside to grab the paper and search through all of the adds for the comic section. Weird Form of Deja Vu

Most people this week have been asking me how it feels "to be back." I was re-hired at my old construction company and started this past Monday. After honestly replying that it's good and exciting to be back, the next best phrase would be "weird sense of deja vu." It's very good for me to back for both me personally and the company. It means that things are getting better in the economy and the company. I'm the first person back and I'm happy to be here. The deja vu is a feeling of "wait, I've been here before," combined with so much has changed within the culture and company. They're all good changes, but it's different. I love project management and could not think of a better place to work.
