Meal Planning
My latest endeavor is to be better at meal planning and grocery shopping. I had heard about a website at Enrichment and decided to give it a try. It's a website where you can have a virtual recipe box and keep electronic copies of your favorite recipes. One of my favorite features is that it can generate a shopping list based on the recipes you choose. It was great to try it out and I'm excited for the lemon scones that I have in the oven! I'll let you know how they turn out!

Memories of My Father
Over the past weeks it's been amazing what can bring up memories of my dad. I see a cyclist on my way to work, or I catch one of his favorite movies on tv (The Bridge Over the River Kwia was on this morning). Tonight I'm listening to Harry Chapin, a folk artist from the seventies. I have wonderful memories of driving to Flagstaff to visit my grandparents listening to Harry. One of my favorites was "30,000 Pounds of Bananas" (which my mom hates). I have always loved these songs for their stories and the acoustical sound. Plus, my dad and Lisa, my sister would love to sing along to the songs. My mom even used one of the songs to teach my fifth grade class about art ("Flowers Are Red"). Right now, I close my eyes and I can see my dad sitting on the couch in our living room singing along to one of his favorites "A Better Place to Be:"
"And she said "Hey Bub, It's been awhile
Since you been around.
Where the heck you been hidin'
And why you look so down?"
Well the little man just sat there
like he never heard a sound.
The waitress she gave out a cough,
And acting not the least put off,
She spoke once again.
She said, "I don't want to bother you,
Consider it's understood.
I know I'm not no beauty queen,
But I sure can listen good."
And the little man took his drink in his hand
And he raised it to his lips.
He took a couple of sips.
And then he told the waitress his story."
