Once when George A. Smith was ill, his cousin the Prophet Joseph Smith came to visit him. President George A. Smith related what the Prophet told him:
“He told me I should never get discouraged, whatever difficulties might surround me. If I were sunk into the lowest pit of Nova Scotia and all the Rocky Mountains piled on top of me, I ought not to be discouraged, but hang on, exercise faith, and keep up good courage, and I should come out on the top of the heap” (Ancestry, Biography, and Family of George A. Smith, comp. Zora Smith Jarvis [Provo: Zora Smith Jarvis, 1962], p. 55).
I think that sometimes it's hard not to let ourselves get discouraged when we have difficult or hard decisions to make. I suppose this quote councils to have faith which are things that are hoped for but not seen. So we will pray about it with hope.
We can hope for good things to happen and we shouldn't let caution, uncertainty or difficult situations discourage us from making our decision."
What great advice for me to receive! We've had some difficult circumstances over the first few years of our marriage. Perhaps it was a little hard to believe that something so wonderful could happen to us. We can't let a difficult decision discourage us from being happy and having hope. I need to exercise faith and have courage.
So for the good news: I got a construction management job and will start April 4th!
