Gunther Marathon Training Part 6

Instead of babbling on about how we're running and doing our best to train, try this great poem out instead:

Champion

(Author Unknown)

The average runner runs
until the breath in him is gone,
But the champion has the iron will
that makes her carry on.

For the rest the average runner begs
when limp his muscles grow,
But the champion runs on leaden legs,
her courage makes her go.

The average man's complacent
when he's done his best to score,
But the champion does her best,
and then she does a little more.

My mom first brought my attention to this poem while I was a runner in high school. The words have always stayed with me, especially the plug for perseverance.

Stay tuned next week as we will name the final four marathon race selections!
